What is Documentary Photography?

Some photographs require the photographer to pose their models a lot. These are formal photos.
Some photographs require the photographer to just guide their models a bit. This is lifestyle.

And some photographers require the photographer merely to observe and not to interfere with the story being told before them.

This is documentary photography.
