Top 10 Fun Things To Do On Maternity Leave

This time five years, I was getting ready for maternity leave - knowing that my growing bump was a sign of my life about to change. Our daughter ended up being 19 days late (yup, you heard that right, 19) and so it was a long long wait.

Here are some of my suggestions of how to spend that time wisely and having fun…

Go to cafes, and drink your coffee out of mugs. Once baby comes you will realise that a lidded cup is far more practical to prevent spillages or in case you need to leave in a hurry.
Read a book. Something that needs your concentration, you won’t manage that for a while.
Take a bath, don’t use tea tree oil - you will use loads after baby comes and get sick of the stuff.
Wonder around shops, especially ones with really narrow aisles where buggies cannot reach.
Meet up with friends and have good conversations.
Go for a mani / pedi
Get your hair done, at 4 months post partum half of it will fall out so enjoy it now.
Have a maternity massage - it will really help those aches and pains.
Have a weekend away
Wear really nice outfits baby will puke on everything once they arrive.

Well okay there is lots of practical things I have missed but you only have to go to Google and you will find a million and one of the practical lists. The only thing I’d add to them is find a breastfeeding counsellor or doula before you have your baby so you can call her as soon as you need afterwards.

For a while your body won’t be your own and your time will not be your own, so enjoy what time you have now.
